The national women’s football team, Crested Cranes is to start early preparations ahead of its first leg encounter with DR Congo in the 8th Africa Women Championship qualifiers. The team is expected to enter into residential training on January 2, 2012.
FUFA’s head of technical Asuman Lubowa told URN that the team will be camped at Kavumba Entebbe Road under the watchful eyes of Coach Majdah Nantanda. Unlike their Tanzanian counterparts who qualified for the 2011 Africa Women Championships in South Africa, Uganda will be all out to try and do what the men’s team, Cranes have failed to do in over 30 years.
Nantanda says that they need to start early preparations because getting a good win in Kampala will be very good before the team travels to DRC. In December, the Crested Cranes lost two matches in Cairo after falling 4-1 in the first game and a modest 1-0 in the second build-up game.
Among the players invited today (Wednesday) that will start training next week include; Harriet Kayonjo, Gladyse Nakitto, Shamim Nantege, Rita Nakirijja, Christine Nambirige, Hadijja Nampijja, Fatuma Matovu, Winnie Nakato, Sylivia Nagawa, Dorothy Nakato, Naome Nagaddya, Mary Babirye, Joyce Mwebaze and Ritah Kivumbi. The others include; Agnes Nalunkuuma, Sylivia Nakazibwe, Fatuma Luwedde, Stella Nassuna, Christine Wanyama, Viola Nambi, Betty Omega, Memorty Nampijja, Aidah Namuyomba, Zaina Namukasa and Sharlote Binsiima.
