Police has deployed in Balattira village in Kapeeka Sub County in Nakaseke district to restore peace following riots that broke out this afternoon over the brutal of a witch doctor in the area. The riots started after residents found the body of Simon Lulirwa lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on the head, chest and back. Wilberforce Kanya, the area LC I chairperson says that after recovering the body of Lulirwa residents mobilized and raided the homes of Aloysius Busulwa and Kato Kagimu, both witch doctors.
They accused them of masterminding the brutal murder of their colleague whom they had with differences for the past four year. Kanya explains that Busulwa tried to run away but the mob descended on him and beat into pulp until police intervened and whisked him away. The angry residents who were armed with clubs, stones and spears then descended on the houses of both suspects and demolished them.
Isaiah Mulwana, a resident of the village that the two witchdoctors are the prime suspects in the murder of their rival because they have moving around the village threatening to kill him for attracting many clients. Mulwana added that on 1st December, 2011 the wife of late Lulirwe identified only as Nakimuli died mysteriously and his shrine burnt. He says that the duo bragged over the incidents and threatened to cause more havoc.
By press time police from Kapeeka police post and Nakaseke police station had sealed off the home of the deceased and the two witchdoctors but residents were still bitter and threatening to attack the police post and kill Busulwa. In another incident Besweri Mukiibi, resident of Bukattira village in Ssemuto Sub County has also been murdered over land related wrangles. His body was found dumped in a bush on the village this afternoon.
Edward Kyaligonza, Nakaseke district police commander declined to comment on both incidents saying that he will address the press after completing his ongoing operation to arrest the murder suspects.
