The United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has announced that it is using chapter seven to protect civilians in Jonglei State’s Pibor County.
Chapter seven of the UN charter allows the UNMISS soldiers to use force and shoot if there is eminent threat to civilian population.
The Deputy Special Representative of Secretary General to South Sudan, Lise Grand, confirmed on Friday that the UNMISS is ready to implement chapter seven of the UN mandate to protect the civilians caught in the conflict between the Lou Nuer and Murle tribesmen.
She says that the UN mission in South Sudan is already reinforcing the presence of the UN soldiers in Pibor.
