Two children were on New Year’s Day killed by a fire that gutted a farm house in Sironko district.
One month old Sam Wekomba and his three year old sister Brenda Nandutu perished in a fire that gutted a house in Namali village, Sironko district.
Diana Nandawula, the Eastern Uganda Police Spokesperson says that the parents of the two children identified as Fred Masanga and Florence Nafuna, had left the children in the house alone with a burning candle while they were drinking from a nearby trading center.
Nandaula says preliminary police investigations indicate it could have been sparked off by the candle. She says the parents of the deceased children have been charged with murder.
The bodies of the deceased are still lying at their parents’ home in Namali village as police waits for a postmortem report.
