Mike Mutebi finally got his first win in his forth game in charge of Sports Club Villa as his team crushed UTODA 3-0 in a Bell Lager Super League game played at Wankulukuku Stadium on Tuesday.
An excited Mutebi applauded the win saying it gives the team momentum ahead of the second round which starts on January 20th. Going into the game, Mutebi had only managed two draws and one defeat since taking over three weeks ago. This was SC Villa’s second win in 14 first round matches played.
The first half ended 0-0 as the SC Villa fans started getting worried that their team was failing to beat a bottom placed side. On resumption Apollo Kakaire gave the blues the lead in the 61st minute before Noah Ssemakula made it 2-0 eight minutes later. With 10 minutes to full time Misi Katende wrapped it up for SC Villa to make it 3-0. The win pushed SC Villa to 11th place, while Uganda Revenue Authority’s surprise 2-1 loss to Victors FC at Kakindu Stadium kept them in second place.
Coach George Nsimbe’s side scored through Khamis Nsubuga and Karim Ndugwa, while Peter Ssenyonjo’s strike was not enough for URA. It was the first loss for the League defending champions before they play their last game in the first round on Friday. Coach Alex Isabirye described the loss as a wakeup call for the team to work hard.
Action in the Bell Lager Super League returns on Friday with table leaders Express FC hosting KCC FC, while URA battle Fire Masters and army side Simba take on Bunnamwaya FC.
