Mbarara Council, Kiosk Owners Feud over Market

News
Paul Omoko, the Town clerk told a meeting on Thursday that the plans to redevelop the market were complete, but was shocked when the Kiosk owners said they are not ready to withdraw the caveat on the land title, which Mbarara Municipality acquired in 2006.
The redevelopment of  Mbarara Central Market could take a little longer, as the  feud between Mbarara Municipal Council and Mbarara Central market kiosk deepens.

Paul Omoko, the Town clerk told a meeting on Thursday that the plans to redevelop the market were complete, but was shocked when the Kiosk owners said they are not ready to withdraw the caveat on the land title, which Mbarara Municipality acquired in 2006.

The kiosk owners led by Juliet Mpeirwe said they are not against governments plan to redevelop the market, but want assurance that they will be considered first when the redevelopment is over.

The town clerk was however resolute in his answer. “You either withdraw the caveat or forget the redevelopment of the market”, he said.

The Kiosk owners insist that they are rightful owners of the land where the central market is located.

But Mbarara Municipal Council says it gave them the land and does not guarantee them ownership and would continue to view them as tenants.
