Council Speaker Charged for Theft of Garbage Skips

The Speaker is jointly charged with two other officials for stealing two garbage skips from the National Environment Management Authority’s recycling plant.
Three officials of Soroti Municipal Council including the Speaker have appeared in court for theft of garbage bins.

The Speaker Honorat Okello, Geoffrey Oumo and the councilor representing Madera and Eric Engulu the acting environment officer are jointly accused of stealing two garbage skips from the National Environment Management Authority’s recycling plant.

The trio appeared on Friday before Lucy Achio the Soroti Chief Magistrate.

Prosecution alleges that the three officials were arrested by the police on 30th of December after they allegedly stole two garbage skips from the recycling plant located in Aminit village.

The police allegedly impounded vehicle registration number UAE 353D which the three were using to transport the skips out of the recycling plant. The driver of the impounded truck Asuman Kalema allegedly pinned the three to the theft of the garbage skips.

But the three denied any involnvement in the theft of the skips.

They were granted a cash bail of 200,000 shillings each and their sureties two million shillings not cash.

They will reappear in court on 8th of February for mention of the case.
