FUFA: We Are Not Perturbed by Court Summons

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has said they are not perturbed by the Court summons issued on Tuesday to three of their members.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has said they are not perturbed by the Court summons issued on Tuesday to three of their members.

Alex Luganda, a member of the Legal Committee said on Wednesday, during the weekly Press briefing at the FUFA headquarters in Mengo that although they had received the summons and had forwarded them to their lawyers, they are not perturbed by the same.

On Tuesday, the Buganda Road Court issued criminal summons to the FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa, the Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson and Chairman of the Legal Committee Muhamadi Bazirengende. The three officials are accused of making documents without authority, forgery, making false documents, fraud and breach of trust in relation to the FUFA constitution.

Luganda downplayed the summons saying courts of law have been turned into places of drama where some people simply run to play act.

The FUFA Vice President for Administration, Moses Magogo said it was unfortunate football was being attacked by ignorant people. He noted that what ever was done in the August 2010 General Assembly was done with the mandate of the delegates from all the districts in the country.

Magogo said the matter being taken to court by Mbidde Dennis Ssebugwawo has demeaned the role of the General Assembly who sat and decided. Magogo described Mbidde as an outsider who is not a FUFA delegate and therefore with no authority to challenge what the General Assembly agreed and decided.

The FUFA Vice President said it was very bad that some sections of people in Uganda want to be run under company law yet the sport is run in accordance with the Statute of the World Football governing body—FIFA.

With two members of the Uganda Super League (USL), the body that runs the League refusing to appear before the FUFA Disciplinary Committee on Friday, there is likely to be more drama that could involve the football governing body suspending the League till the house is put in order as per the rules of the game. Among some of the issues FUFA want USL to do is to replay the three games that were officiated by unqualified referees and remove Fire Masters from the League because it had been relegated the previous season.
