Five Nominated for Jinja East By Election

Five candidates have been finally been nominated to contest in the Jinja East constituency by election slated for early February 2012.
Five candidates have been nominated to contest in the Jinja East constituency by election due in February 2012.

The candidates are Nathan Samson Igeme Nabeta of the National Resistance Movement, Paul Mwiru of the Forum for Democratic Change, Ritchie Osinde Oyo, of the Uganda People’s Congress, Alex Mufumbiro, of the Democratic Party and Cranmer Dhikusooka, an Independent candidate.

Flavia Mujulizi, the Jinja district returning officer says  the five were the only ones nominated out of ten who picked up nomination forms.

Those who didn’t turn up are Moses Nagaya, of the Federal Alliance party, Robert Kanusu, Joseph Lukyamuzi, Batambuze Magid and Chris Sentamu, all independent candidates.

Verification of nomination and academic papers has also been done and all candidates qualified to stand for the by election.

Jinja East constituency by election was set after a court ruling citing voter bribery and lack of academic credential by former Jinja East Member of Parliament Nathan Samson Igeme Nabeta.

The five candidates are meet on Friday morning to harmonize campaign programs ahead of the by election.
