Five suspected highway robbers are in police custody following their arrest in Mbarara town over the weekend.
The five including a woman were arrested in the out skirts of Mbarara municipality after a tip off from a witch doctor.
The south western regional police commander Paul Nkore identified the suspects as Tumuhimbise Vincent, his wife Stella Nyehumbise, Sabiiti George, Tumwine Innocent and Yakobo Ibrahim.
Nkore says police was tipped off by a witch doctor that he could not name for security reasons. He says the witch doctor rang police after the robbers took guns to him for cleansing.

Nkore says the suspects are part of a gang of most wanted criminals who have been waylaying vehicles and stealing people’s property. He said these are part of a bigger racket based in Kampala that has been facilitating them to carry out deadly missions in Bushenyi, Mbarara, Isingiro, Kiruhura, Masaka and Kampala.

The five are to be charged with terrorism when investigations are complete according to Nkore.
Police have meanwhile recovered the two guns from the witch doctor’s shrine. The recovery of the guns, whose source is not yet known, brings to five the number of guns recovered from robbers in less than three weeks.
