Members of the Uganda Super League Limited (USLL) say the Bell Lager Super League second round will kick on Friday despite the suspension by the Football Federation yesterday.
Embattled USLL chairman Kavuma Kabenge insists FUFA have no right to suspend the League and warned that if any club fails to appear for the game they will loose the points.
The Football Federation led by Lawrence Mulindwa suspended the Uganda Super League with effect from January 19th. FUFA also gave USLL an ultimatum of ten days to enable the clubs show compliance. FUFA also wants the league officials to enforce the ban on Kabenge and the USLL Chief Executive Officer, Ebil Ssegawa. The two were banned from football activities for 11 years and one year respectively.
Other conditions that FUFA is setting include re-constituting the USLL management Board to comprise 16 directors, re-aligning statutes in accordance to association football rules and also reinstate Hoima-Busia FC in the Uganda Super League.
Fred Muwema, one of the USLL directors also downplayed FUFA’s demands saying the league matches would go on.
But the federation officials say if the clubs do not comply by January 30, FUFA will have no option but to withdraw the authority to run the Uganda Super League as provided for in the FUFA constitution.
Early this week, 12 clubs insisted their two members cannot be banned by FUFA and threatened to withdraw from FUFA-organized competitions.
The 10-day suspension of the League is likely to anger the sponsors especially Super Sport who had already booked space to screen the live matches and also flew in the technical staff from Nairobi and South Africa to handle the matches.
Five League games are scheduled to take place on Friday at different venues. The clubs in action are; Proline, URA, Masaka, Bidco, Maroons, Bunnamwaya, Police, Victors, Simba and UTODA.
