Police have summoned Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago for inciting violence.
Lukwago is alleged to have uttered words in relation to inciting violence while at a rally organized by Activists for Change members at Kireka on Saturday.
According to the summons, Fred Mirondo, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of criminal investigations says that Lukwago was expected to appear at Kireka police before the special investigation unit at 10am on Wednesday.
But Lukwago told journalists that the time and date of his reporting to the police coincided with the time he had planned to chair a special KCCA council meeting to discuss the Luzira shooting incident involving George Agaba, the city director for physical planning. The Sunday morning incident in Railway Zone in Port Bell left one person, John Onyango, dead and five others injured.
Lukwago claimed that being summoned to police has been one of the plots to divert his attention from holding the council meeting.
// Cue in: To prefer charges of …
Cue out: … not gone there.” //
Lukwago’s meeting, however, ended prematurely after councilors walked out claiming that the Lord Mayor was interested in discussing the personality of George Agaba other than following issues affecting Kampala city.
