A 17 year old student of Mbirizi Secondary School in Lwengo district was on Sunday night electrocuted while trying to illegally tap power from high voltage lines.
The incident occurred at Lyantonde town council when George Kalema climbed a
utility pole in an attempt to tap electricity into their house.
Kalema was supposed to start join Senior Four on Monday.
Sadat Waliggo, one of the witnesses says they tried to convince the deceased not to climb the pole but he resisted. According to Waliggo, Kalema was electrocuted and he remained hanging on top of the wires.
Lyantonde DPC Jonathan Baroza confirmed the incident adding that by the time Kalema’s body was removed, it looked dry. He says Kalema’s body was handed over to his family for burial. DPC Baroza warned people against illegal connections.
