George Agaba, the director in charge of physical planning at Kampala Capital City Authority has been re-arrested in connection with the Luzira gun shooting incident a week ago.
On Monday, Lieutenant General Kale Kaihura, the Inspector General of Police stormed City Hall and held a three-hour meeting with Muruli Mukasa, the minster in charge of Kampala, Jennifer Musisi, the KCCA executive director, and Alice Muwanguzi, the Resident City Commissioner.
After the meeting, General Kaihura told journalists that the police have been carrying out investigations to gather sufficient information regarding the Luzira shooting incident.
On January 22, George Agaba led a team of KCCA law enforcement officers to evict what he called illegal structures constructed in the road reserves at Luzira Railway Zone. The exercise, however, turned violent resulting into the death of one person and injuring five others. Both Agaba and his body guard, Santos Komakech Makmot were arrested and Komakech is currently on remand in Luzira prison for allegedly shooting dead John Onyango and injuring others. Agaba was, however released on Thursday in what police called lack of evidence pinning him to the shooting.
Opposition politicians under the Activists for Change had threatened to demonstrate in the city centre on Tuesday, accusing the police of double standards after releasing Agaba on police bond and remanding his body guard Santos Komakech at Luzira Prisons.
// Cue in: “So why make …
Cue out: … and stop Kusasamazza.” //
But Kaihura says Agaba’s file is now ready to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
