About 280 pupils of Kanyangeya primary school in Kasese Municipality, Kasese district are yet to start classes three days into the first school term of 2012 after a swarm of bees raided the premises.
The school head teacher Lavinya Kabugho told Uganda Radio Network on Wednesday that the bees had colonised and settled in the office and staff room when the school opened on Monday.
Kabugho says that all the administrative work at the school including the registration of new pupils has been carried out under a tree.
The teaching staff of fifteen teachers has not accessed their text books and other teaching materials because the bees have turned the bookshelf into a hive.
Kabugho said they sprayed paraffin to disperse the bees on Monday but they failed and resorted to fire.
She revealed, however, that fire has also failed because they feared burning the school property inside the office.
The area woman councilor, Monica Odongokara says she has reported the matter to the municipal education department who have promised to find the right chemicals to help chase the bees.
The class rooms next to the head teacher’s office are also inaccessible after bees colonised them.
