Hoima police have arrested an iron bar hit man also believed to be a drug addict.
25-year old Bosco Sesazi a resident of Lusaka Upper in Hoima municipality was arrested on Sunday night during police patrols.
Johnson Agaba the district Criminal Investigations boss says Sesazi was moving with three other people among them a lady at the time of arrest at about 11pm.His group members escaped.
Agaba explains that the suspect was found in possession of three iron bars and packets of marijuana.
The CID boss suspects Sesazi to be part of a racket resuming iron bar crime in the district.
Last week a boda boda cyclist was hired and later hit with a metal object believed to be an iron bar killing him on the spot.
Sesazi believed to be a serial criminal was first arrested last year after he attempted to hit a boda boda cyclist with an iron bar.
According to Agaba he was released by the then police Rapid Response Unit operatives under unclear circumstances after spending sometime in police detention.
On interrogation, Sesazi admitted to attacking people with iron bars and robbing them of their belongings. He however blamed his actions on the influence of marijuana and begged for police forgiveness.
But Agaba says unless people file complaints pinning him in any attacks, police will charge him with being in possession of breaking implements and illegal possession of narcotics.
Hoima district witnessed a surge in iron bar crime in 2010 which left about ten people hit and killed while more than 20 others were injured.
Inspector General of police Kale Kayihura dispatched his investigative team to the region to curb the crime that saw about 30 suspects being rounded up in Hoima alone.
Agaba says police does not want a replica of the 2010 situation saying a hunt for Sesazi’s accomplices is on.
