Hundreds of anti-riot policemen have been deployed in Mityana town council as the Activists for Change members start countryside rallies on Friday.

The policemen have been deployed in the town along Kampala Road, Hospital road and Wabigalo trading centre. A number of police patrol trucks have been stationed at junctions and roundabouts.

Mityana District police commander Alfred Bagambaki says they have set tough guidelines for the A4C rally to avoid clashes and inconveniencing other people who are carrying out their businesses.

Among the conditions, Bagambaki explains that the A4C rally which was supposed to be held at Busimbi sub county grounds has been shifted to Mityana Ssaza grounds and the processions before and after the rally have also been suspended.

Bagambaki adds that policemen have been put on high alert to oversee the guidelines and failure will culminate into arrests.

However, the A4C activists in Mityana led by Dr Fred Mukasa have defied police guidelines and organized a convoy of more than 30 cars and 50 motor cycles which have driven off to Zigoti town which is 20 kilometers from Mityana.

Mukasa says that the convoy is to welcome other A4C members including FDC Leader Kiiza Besigye. They insisted that it’s their right to hold a procession and police should give security instead of infringing on their freedom.

By the time of filing this report, the convoy was still proceeding to Zigoti town council and police was heavily deployed in Mityana town.

Meanwhile hundreds of people in Mityana are also trekking to Mityana Ssaza grounds to attend the rally and it’s still unclear whether police will finally allow the procession to take place.
