Jinja East Election Violence Suspects Granted Bail

Jinja Grade One Magistrates’ Court has granted bail to eight men who were accused of inciting violence, indulging in malicious damage and assault during the just concluded Jinja East Parliamentary by election.

It is alleged that on the night of February 8th 2012 at Masese A in Danida Waluukuba Masese Division, the accused, who were all supporters Paul Mwiru, damaged the vehicle of a rival candidate, Nathan Igeme Nabeta. Mwiru, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change on Thursday defeated NRM’s Nabeta and three other candidates to win the by election.

While appearing before the Grade One Magistrate Agnes Alum on Friday, the accused denied the charges. Alum granted them bail and ordered them to pay 100,000 shillings each. They will re-appear in court on February 28th.

The sureties were councilor Bizito Moses, Speaker of Jinja Municipal Council Maganda Abubaker, Ritual Kalulu and Kakaire Gilbert.
