The High court in Fort Portal on Tuesday sentenced a 28-year-old man to 15 years in jail at Katoojo government prison, for aggravated defilement.
Richard Kirokimu, a resident of Mugoma village west division Fort portal municipality was found guilty of defiling a 15 year-old-girl.
Court presided over by justice Byabakama Mugenyi heard that the girl’s grandmother caught the accused red handed defiling the girl and alerted the police, leading to his arrest.
Prosecution told court that the accused committed the offence on 16th April 2010.
Court heard that results from a hospital examination showed that the girl was involved in penetrative sexual intercourse.
Kirokimu however denied the charges but the judge ruled that evidence provided by the witnesses was sufficient enough to implicate the accused.
The judge ruled that the suspect should serve 15-years in jail at Katojo government prison.
The judge says the sentence will serve as a deterrent to men who intend to commit such crimes that affect the rights of children.
