Armed thugs have robbed over shillings 50 million from an Asian businessman in a daring day time robbery outside Nakaloke police post in Mbale.  Jiten Patel, a worker of CN Cotton Company Kachumbala was robbed off the money on Friday afternoon following a high speed chase that started from Kachumbala and ended at Nakaloke police station where he had sought refuge.

Denis Okalebo, an eye witness says that the thugs who were driving a white premio registration number UAP 244M chased Jiten who was driving a corolla UAE 804C while firing in the air.  He says the Asian branched off to Nakoloke Police post in an attempt to seek refuge but the thugs also branched and followed him there.

Okalebo says the Asian jumped off the car and ran inside the police station while the thugs who were wearing masks fired in the air before picking his bag containing money from his car and drove off. He says that cops who were seated under a tree looked on helplessly as the robbery took place.

He says one of the policemen later picked a motorcycle and attempted to follow the thugs five minutes after they had left. Diana Nandaula, Eastern Regional Police Spokesperson says that one of the policemen from Nakaloke attempted to follow the thugs on a motorcycle but they disappeared from him around Mbale high court.

The distance from Nakaloke to Mbale town where the thugs drove to is about ten kilometers. Nandaula says that it is possible that the cops at Nakaloke were thrown in confusion which made them fail to notify the mobile patrol unit to block the escape route for the thugs. She says police the Asian who lost the money will record a statement when he recovers from shock.
