Lira Lawyer Dies In Car Crash

Opok Tom Richard, a 38 year old lawyer working with Opok Tom Ogwang & Company Advocates in Lira town has died in a road accident along Lira-Dokolo highway. The incident happened shortly after 2:00pm on Monday at Agwata forest reserve, Agwata Sub County in Dokolo district.

The incident happened shortly after 2:00pm on Monday at Agwata forest reserve, Agwata Sub County in Dokolo district.

While driving a Toyota MarkII vehicle registration number UAB 264T, Opok died instantly when his vehicle’s front tyre burst.


Kakaire David, the officer in charge traffic at Dokolo Central Police Station, says the deceased reportedly lost control of the vehicle which went off the road and overturned before he hit his head on the tarmac.

Kakaire said the deceased attained severe injuries on the head and died instantly. According to the traffic officer, it appears the deceased lawyer had not fastened his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Another unidentified person who was traveling with the deceased in the same vehicle sustained severe injuries on the head and has been rushed to Lira Regional Referral hospital.

This is the first fatal accident to be recorded within Dokolo district along Lira-Dokolo highway since the beginning of this year.

The deceased’s body has been taken to a mortuary at Lira Regional Referral hospital for an autopsy. The wreckage is still at the scene.
