The Uganda Cranes’ latest call-up Martin Mutumba has been involved in a motor accident on his way to the Airport in Stockholm, Sweden where he plays his professional football.
Rogers Mulindwa, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) spokesman says the player was on his way to catch a flight to Uganda on Thursday, to start preparations for next week’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers away to Congo Brazzaville.
According to Mulindwa, an over-speeding vehicle rammed into Mutumba’s car leaving it damaged. The player was, however, not hurt. Mulindwa says Mutumba will now fly in on Saturday. The 26-year-old Mutumba features for AIK FC, a premier League team in Sweden.
Cranes’ team manager Chrispus Muyinda told URN that the team enters residential camp at Sky Hotel, Naalya on Friday and that they expect all professional players to arrive in the country by Sunday.
Some of the professional players already in the country include Hassan Wasswa (Turkey), Musa Mudde (Kenya), Brian Umony, Moses Oloya (Vietnam), Patrick Ochan (DR Congo), Geoffrey Sserunkuma (South Africa), Isaac Isinde (Ethiopia), Habib Kavuma and Dan Wagaluka (Rwanda).
The home based players called include; Kimera, Simeon Masaba, Godfrey Walusimbi, Henry Kalungi, Steven Bengo and Ismael Kazibwe.
