Lukyamuzi is accused of misappropriating 9 million shillings, meant for party activities.
The embattled Lubaga South MP, Ken Lukyamuzi, who is also the Conservative Party president has snubbed a probe committee which is investigating the role he allegedly played in the misappropriation of party funds.
Lukyamuzi is accused of misappropriating 9 million shillings, meant for party activities.
The money was budgeted for holding a delegate’s conference. He is also accused of discriminating against party members, turning the party into a family affair by reserving the party East African Legislative Assembly representative slot for his daughter Susan Nampijja, and frustrating party proposals seeking funding from donors.
Lukyamuzi is also accused of personalizing party property, including computers, and the illegal suspension of 6 party officials including Dan Walyemenya the party secretary general and Wasib Magira the party vice president.
On Friday, Lukyamuzi was expected to appear before the party disciplinary committee, chaired by Ashy James Ssekajja, at the party secretariat on plot 116 Kyadondo Road, in Mengo to defend himself.
But Lukyamuzi snubbed the meeting. He claimed that he could not appear before a committee because the probe committee's powers to probe him are not stipulated in the party constitution.
Lukyamuzi intsead cliams that this committee should firts investigate the one billion shillings that was lost under the hands of Dan Walyemenya, the party secretary and Fred Guweddeko, the officer in charge of the party research desk.
He claims that there is no evidence to pin him against these accusations.
// Cue in: “It will not …
Cue out: … representation in parliament.” //
Lukyamuzi also defended his daughter Susan Nampijja ,as the only first directly elected Member of Parliament elected on the party ticket in the country.
He says there is no crime in supporting his daughter for the post in case parliament implements the political party representation bill.
Lukyamuzi insists he shall not appear before the committee.
// Cue in: Appearing before a …
Cue out: … one wants.” //
He however admits that the party has taken long to organize a delegates conference. On other accusations Lukyamuzi says that he only owns one computer allocated to him as the party president and that other property.
Christopher Kiwanuka, the vice chairperson of the probe committee told reporters in Mengo that the disciplinary committee is provided for in the party constitution insisting that Ken is just disrespecting this committee.
// Cue in: “And he is aware …
Cue out: waiting for him in vain.” //
Kiwanuka says the probe committee is now considering writing a report to the National Executive Committee of the party which is mandated to seek legal redress.
