At least nine Ugandan athletes have qualified for the 2012 London Olympics.
Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation (UAAF) says they expect more to qualify.
The 2010 Commonwealth double gold medalist, Moses Kipsiro, who also won gold at the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique, is one of the medal hopefuls after qualifying for both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.
Stephen Kiprotich, who finished third in the recent Tokyo Marathon and bagged US$20,000, is another star who is a medal prospect for the country after qualifying last year in Spain and making good time to reconfirm his qualification in Tokyo.
Former 3000 metres women's steeplechase champion, Dorcus Inzikuru, who has lately been in a marital battle is also reportedly still struggling to qualify for the Olympics. Only two female athletes Annet Negesa (800metres) and Jane Suuto (marathon) have qualified for the Games.
Otuchet said the other athletes who have qualified for the London Olympic Games include; Abraham Kiplimo (5,000metres), Geoffrey Kusuro (5,000metres), Daniel Chepiagon (Marathon), Jacob Araptany (Steeplechase) and Benjamin Kiplagat (Steeplechase).
Besides athletics, the only other Ugandan assured of making it to the Olympics is badminton player Edwin Ekiring, who will simply need to keep top of the African continent rankings to be able to get a wildcard from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
