The opening of Karamoja Cultural Museum had generated excitement amongst local elders saying it will help expose and preserve the silent Karimojong Culture and heritage. Karamoja Cultural Museum is located in Singila village in Katikikile Sub County. It was constructed with funding from the French government, and officially commission by Janet Museveni, the minister in charge of Karamoja Affairs and Aline Kuster-Ménager, the French Ambassador to Uganda on Wednesday.
Mzee Aleper Rodariko, an Elder in Moroto has welcomed the establishment of the Karamoja Cultural Museum. He says besides protecting the Karamoja culture and heritage, it will help expose the region to the outside world and also help reawaken the young generation. Rose Nkalomajah, the Commissioner of Museum and Monument in the department of preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife says the Museum would help in the preservation of the culture of the region.
She says government would ensure that the Museum would soon be expanded to attract more investment and add value to the region.

Aline Kuster-Ménager, the French Ambassador to Uganda says heritage conservation has been one of the priorities of the Embassy. She says that her government is interested in developing Karamoja adding that it was the basis for the French embassy to initiate and fund the establishment of a museum in Karamoja.
The Ambassador notes that no long standing development can be attained without the respect and honor of the diversification of the culture and heritage of the Karimojongs.

Janet Museveni, the Minister in charge of Karamoja region commended the French government for its contribution in the development of the region and the country at large.
She says the establishment of the museum in the region shows the level and the speed at which Karamoja is developing and accordingly urged the residents to utilise the facility to attract more investors.

The museum located Just at the slope of Mt. Moroto is already stocked with a few artifacts elaborating on the culture and heritage of the Karimojongs ranging from their way of dressings, tools for pastoralism, rock paintings and a few plants and animal fossils.
