Gayaza High School will host the prestigious All Girls Youth Championship March 17-18 where Uganda’s emerging volleyball stars are expected to showcase their talent.
The two-day tournament is expected to feature over 30 girl’s teams from all over the country. With the big number of entries competition is expected to be stiff especially with the revamping of big teams such as Nabisunsa and St. Marys Namagunga.
Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) Schools chairman, Edgar Karungi, has warned that schools that field mercenaries shall be disqualified from the tournament and that the requirement to field only two foreign players will be enforced. This regulation was introduced a few years ago to ensure more exposure opportunities for Ugandan kids.
Among the top schools expected to take part include; Maryhill Mbarara, Nabisunsa, St Joseph’s Nsambya, St. Marys Namagunga, Dabani Girls Busia, Seroma SS, Katikamu SDA and Summaya Girls among others.
The 2012 edition will be sponsored by Crown Beverages Ltd, MTN (U) Ltd and Bluecube Ltd. Last year Trust High School won the trophy, while Summaya Girls settled for silver and bronze went to Mary Hill High School.
