Gun fire rocked Bukenya Foundation Hall in Luwero Town council last evening following a violent riot by revelers over the failure by Jose Chameleon to perform. Trouble started after Jose Chameleon, who scheduled to perform declined to take to the stage citing the poor sound system. The revelers pleaded with Chameleon to perform in vain. Chameleon said he would not take to stage unless the Deejays boost their sound system.
John Kakooza, a reveler explains that matters worsened when the system went off completely after the generator broke down. He says that the revelers turned rowdy and started accusing Chameleon of cheating them. They started throwing stones and bottles at the Dj and Jose Chameleon. Kakooza explains that police swung into action and fired live bullets in the air and teargas to disperse the rowdy revelers. Chameleon took advantage of the chaos to jump the perimeter wall with the help of his body guards and drove off to unknown destination.
Yafesi Mugwanya, one of the revelers sustained serious head wounds in the fracas and is currently admitted at Lacor Medical Center in critical condition. Rose Mujjukizi, Director Bukenya Foundation Hall says that the revelers destroyed 700 plastic chairs, while another 25 chairs were looted. Mujjukizi told URN that by press time she hadn’t seen any worker and doesn’t know whether the money they had sold in beers and sodas was safe.
She also warns to suspend Chameleon from staging concerts at her facility because of misconduct. Samuel Bamuzibire, Luweero District Police Commander says that they have launched investigations into the matter. He exonerates chameleon for any wrong doing but blames the organizers of the Music concert for hiring fake equipments.
Attempts to speak to Chameleon of Balaam Marketing and Promotion agency Limited, which organized the show, were futile ad they could not be reached on phone. This the second time singer Chameleon’s Musical show has turned violent in Luweero. In 2010, another show in which Chameleon was scheduled to perform alongside Fred Ssebatta turned violent when he failed to show up.
