Uganda has beat USA by 4 wickets in their first match of the Twenty20 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai this afternoon.  The USA team elected to bat first to put on 123/8, while Uganda who started miserably with a poor run, fought back strongly to register 124/6 victory. Skipper Davis Karashani Arinaitwe recorded 27 runs off the 23 balls. Justine Ligyalingi, Chief Executive Officer- CEO Uganda Cricket Association says that the win is very good for the team because it gives them momentum as the event progresses.

He says that although there are still many games to be played in the group, it was vital to get a win in the first game.
Frank Nsubuga was Uganda’s highest run scorer with 30 runs, while Arinaitwe 27 not out and Arthur Kyobe 18. Suleiman Nardkani was America’s highest run scorer with a massive 38 runs, but the likes of veteran Benjamin Musoke, Roger Mukasa, Arinaitwe and Ssebanja made sure their score run was restricted.

The win put Uganda second in Group B behind Italy, while Namibia who upset Ireland is in third position. After the morning games, Afghanistan was top of group A, while Papau New Guinea. Tomorrow Uganda’s team handled by Kenyan born Coach Martin Suji take on Oman in another game they must win to brighten their chances of getting to the later stages.
