The local football governing body-FUFA has selected Pece Stadium in Gulu to host the Bell larger Uganda Cup knockouts. Roger Mulindwa, spokesman Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA says that they have agreed with Uganda Breweries Limited, the sponsors of the tournament to spread the game to other regions of the country.
He explains that both the sponsors and organizers of the tournament have already inspected and approved the facility. The Bell larger Uganda cup knockouts are scheduled to kick off on March 12, 2012. The first leg of the semi finals is scheduled for April 24 while the return leg takes center stage April 28-29.
The program gives the finalists ample time to prepare for the big clash. The quarter finals have been fixed on April 7-8. This is the first time, Pece stadium will be playing host to this tournament. The clubs that advanced to this round of 16 include two regional teams; Luweero united FC (Buganda) and Kireka United FC of Kampala region.
Six others are FUFA Big League clubs some of which trounced Super Division clubs to qualify to this stage. They include Old Timers, Misindye, Jinja Municipality, CRO, Boroboro Tigers and Aurum Roses FC. Out of the 15 Super Division clubs, only eight moved on to the next stage. These are Water, Victors, URA, SC Villa, Uganda Police, Masaka LC, Bunamwaya and Maroons. The draws for the round of 16 will be made today at Ivys Hotel in Wakaliga.
