The family of the late Judith Nansubuga has dragged Rubaga Hospital to the Uganda Medical and Dental practitioner’s Council for the death of their daughter. Nansubuga was admitted at Rubaga Hospital on 18 February and died on March 05 as a result of bleeding. She died shortly after she was induced into labor to remove a lifeless fetus that had spent four days in her womb. Michael Kayongo, the husband of the deceased says they have decided to petition the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council for redress.
Kayongo says that they want to get justice and bring the people who were responsible for the death of his wife to book so as to help other expectant mothers from going through a similar experience. Kayongo says that they are convinced that Doctors at Rubaga Hospital displayed a high level of negligence leading to the death of his wife and her unborn baby. On Friday, Dr. Adolf Deffenhart, Medical Director Rubaga Hospital admitted that mistakes were committed in handling the deceased.
He regretted the incident but said Rubaga hospital was not responsible for the death of Nansubuga. Dr. Jumba Mukasa, head of the maternity ward who refused to come to the rescue of Nansubuga despite repeated calls told the family that he did nothing wrong.
Dr. Katumba Sentongo, registrar Uganda Dental and Medical Practitioner’s Council confirms receiving the complaint from Nansubuga’s family. Dr Katumba says that they have already asked Rubaga Hospital to file its defense in response to the accusations. 465 out of 100,000 expectant mothers in Uganda die from preventable causes.
