Kitgum Police is holding three suspected iron bar hit men. The suspects are Anthony Okot, Robinson Tabu and Charles Okello. They were picked up in an ongoing joint operation conducted by members of the town council security committee and handed over to police. Two other suspects only identified as Oscar and Short are still at large. The operation stems from a spate of iron bar attacks on residents in Kitgum town.
Last week, three people were attacked by iron bar hit men and robbed off money and property. The iron bar victims include, a UPDF soldier only identified as Ramadhan, Bongomin Oloya, Daisy Nnallongo, a timber dealer in town and a businessman Mzee Terensio. Each of the suspects was assaulted by the iron bar hit and left in comma. Ramadhan was attacked at midnight near Laquinta Nightspot, a popular discotheque in Kitgum town.
Alfred Omara, LC I chairperson East Ward B says that the suspects have been terrorizing residents. He says that they were tipped off by some residents leading to the arrest of the trio. Omara says that the group has members in Gulu, Lira and Kitgum.

Omara says as the town council security committee they are still tracking down the suspects who fled arrest to ensure they are brought to book. Doka Ramadhan, the Criminal Investigations Officer Kitgum district says the suspects are being held at Kitgum central Police station. He says that police is also holding 8 other suspects who were picked up in an operation.

He says the suspects have been produced in charged with theft and causing bodily harm. Doka appeals to residents to remain vigilant and stop moving at night because they become targets of thugs. He says that operations are ongoing to wipe out iron bar crime.
