Pioneer Easy Bus Company plans to introduce a 24-Hour service that will ease transport for people who work late in the night and the city’s revelers.

Now that Kampala City Council Authority has granted the company a five-year-contract to manage transport in the city, negotiations are on with the government to see the possibility of introducing an official night service.

Night transport remains a big problem especially for people who don’t own cars and have to work for longer hours or work on night shifts.

Such people have been resorting to Bodaboda’s which pose their own risks.

John Masanda, Pioneer Easy Bus Chief Executive Director, described it as an unfortunate situation that passengers are left to grapple with transport means, in the evenings because taxi operators along some routes close their operations early.

Cue out:….homes at night. //

Masanda said that if their proposal to operate a 24-hour service is approved, the company will recruit 200 drivers, 300 stewards and 15,000 casual laborers.

Each bus will require between two and three drivers. These drivers will operate an 8-hour shift.

Some passengers are already happy with the proposal. Most say the nigh service will save them from the huge amount of money spent on hiring boda boda riders at night.

Pioneer buses were rolled out two weeks ago, shortly after taxi drivers went on strike to protest what they described as high annual charges by KCCA.
