Kitgum Police Struggle To Deal With Drink Driving

Police
Police and traffic officers in Kitgum are in a big struggle to apprehend drink drivers who over speed under the influence of alcohol. The district lacks a breathaliser, which determines the percentage of alcohol in the body.
With the absence of breathlyzers in Kitgum district, Police and traffic officers in the district are finding it difficult to crackdown on the drink driving vices.

The breathaliser, measures the percentage of alcohol in the body.

This reality has struck hard in recent days following a series of motor accidents that have so far cliamed three  lives and  left one person critically injured.

Over three vehicles and about five motorcycles were involved in various accidents. Most of the accidents are caused by drink driving and over speeding. K

itgum district police commander, Nasur Oringa says the district does not have a breathaliser. He however says he has sent a requisition to the police headquarters to provide the district with the machine.

Cue in: “unfortunate that we don’t have…”
Cue out: “…such kind of thing happens”

The Officer In charge of Criminal Investigations Department, Ramadan Doka acknowledges the problem. He says though one can observe that a driver is drunk physically, the breathaliser would provide a better scientific analysis of the level of alcohol in the body.

Cue in: “much as you may smell…”
Cue out: “…to what we have seen”

Several drivers have been apprehended by visual observation.
