Police in Arua are holding a primary school teacher from Terego County for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15 year old pupil.

Stephen Abadria Onzima, 33, a teacher of Odupi primary school in Terego County, Arua district was arrested on Tuesday for impregnating a primary six girl at the same school.

Josephine Angucia, the police spokesperson for West Nile says a medical report from Omogo Health Centre Four where the girl was examined, indicates that she is two months pregnant. According to Angucia, because of the pregnancy the girl has since dropped out of school.

The matter that happened two months ago came to light when the teacher allegedly attempted to force the girl to abort the fetus. The girl refused and revealed the matter to her relatives who later informed police prompting the arrest.

According to Angucia, the girl told police that they started their relationship with the teacher when she was in Primary Five last year.

The girl who is also an orphan explained that on several occasions they had sex with the teacher in the bush at night whenever he requested to meet her.

Meanwhile the teacher in his statement at Arua Central Police Station, admitted being in a relationship with the minor and that he is responsible for the pregnancy.

However, Angucia noted that more investigations are still ongoing. She said the girl will be subjected to another medical examination at Arua regional referral hospital to establish more evidence.
