George Kakooma, the man who composed the National Anthem of Uganda, has died.

Kakooma succumbed to the stroke of the brain on Easter morning at his daughter’s home in Kololo, Kampala.

A statement issued by Maria Thereza, the wife of the late George Kakooma, says that Kakooma died at 6:00am Sunday morning.

He died aged 88 years; just six months shy from Uganda’s 50th independence anniversary.

His body has been transferred to Mulago Hospital for a post mortem.
