Assault cases are top on the list of crimes recorded by police in Luweero during Easter weekend.
The Luweero District Police Commander Samuel Bamuzibire says that police recorded 33 crimes that were committed between Good Friday to Easter Monday but 12 cases involved fighting, 11 were for theft, while four cases involved obtaining goods by false pretence. Other cases recorded included domestic violence, burglary and trespass.
Bamuzibire attributes the high number of assault cases to over drinking and social excitement. He explains that after people got drunk they developed misunderstandings which culminated into fights.
All the twelve cases of assault were committed in the bars within Luweero town council and the misunderstandings were related to love affairs, beer, and money among others. Bamuzibire adds that the victims sustained wounds on the head, arms and body. Some got treatment in private clinics and were later discharged.

However Bamuzibire described the last Easter weekend as the most peaceful saying no murder or capital offense was recorded as it has been the case on such holidays.
Annet Nampiima, the Red Cross Focal official in Luweero says that her team was on high alert but it recorded no case and also described the Easter Season as the most peaceful celebrated in the district.
James Kimbugwe, a resident of Luweero town council asked police to maintain foot and car patrol even after Easter Season so as to reduce crime. Kimbugwe says that police maintain heavy deployment on holidays but later they relax which attracts criminals.
