Kaberamaido House Fire Leaves Four Dead

A family in Kaberamido district has lost four of its members after their grass-thatched house caught fire in the wee hours of Wednesday while they were asleep.

The incident according to reports happened around 3am at Olio Village in Alwa sub-county.

Police has identified the deceased as Richard Okwaju, 43, the head of the family and his three children; Ejang Lydia 10, Aguru Josephine 8, and Agwang Evelyn aged one year.

Juma Hassan Nyene, the mid Eastern police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network that Okwaju’s wife, Hellen Aligo is admitted Lira Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Nyene says they suspect arson.
 
He says investigations are underway adding that with the help of the police sniffer dog they have been able to reach at some clues although no suspects have been arrested yet.

He, however, observed that most of the people are still traumatized and not opening up freely to talk.

Okwaju is said to be a businessman dealing in produce and police says it’s not yet clear whether the incident is connected to any business rivalry.
