11 Athletes Qualify for Africa Senior Championships in Benin

Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation (UAAF) president, Dominic Otuchet has said eleven athletes have already qualified for the 18th African Senior Championships slated for June 27 to July 1 in Porto Novo, Benin.

The 2010 Commonwealth double gold medalist, Moses Kipsiro, who also won gold at the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique and has already qualified for the London Olympics, is part of the team together with marathoner Stephen Kiprotich.

Otuchet said all the nine athletes who have hit the qualifying mark for the London Olympics will travel to Benin for the Championship. In-form Annet Negesa (800metres) and marathoner Jane Suuto are the women stars who have so far qualified.

Otuchet said the other athletes who have qualified for the Benin Championship includes; Ali Ngaimoko (400m), Mildred Gamba (100m), Abraham Kiplimo (5,000metres), Geoffrey Kusuro (5,000metres), Daniel Chepiagon (Marathon), Jacob Araptany (Steeplechase) and Benjamin Kiplagat (Steeplechase).

Uganda will face top athletes from countries like Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea among others in this event sanctioned by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF).
