Masaka Secondary School has withdrawn from all sports activities organized by the district games and sports committee for alleged incompetence by organizers.
The withdrawal stems from violent clashes between students of Masaka Secondary school and Blessed Sacrament Kimanya Secondary School during the finals of the district post primary school football competition.
Trouble started last week after the organizers of the tournament handed Masaka Secondary school football team a trophy after losing to Blessed Sacrament Kimanya Secondary School during the finals leading to violent clashes.
The students went on rampage beating up several people, looted several shops and vandalized property worth millions of shillings. Police fired live bullets and teargas to disperse the rowdy students and restore calm in Masaka town.
As a result, the management of Masaka Secondary school has resolved to suspend its participation in any sporting activities in the district citing incompetence and poor management of the games. Musa Mpuungu Musoke, the Head Teacher Masaka SS says that they will only resume their participation in sports when a new committee takes over. He accuses the incumbent district sports committee of failing to organize credible sports activities which has created hostilities amongst schools.
// Cue in: “so what we are challenging……”
Cue out: “…..improper management.”//
He also accuses the committee of organizing big sporting events without providing security, which endangered the lives of many students. Hajji Twahili Kitezaala, the chairperson Masaka District Games and Sports has declined to comment on the matter until he receives official communication from Masaka Secondary school.
