The ministry of Agriculture has released 4.8 million shillings for tracking and monitoring birds that are suspected to be suffering from avian flu, in Lwengo district, Samuel Mukuye, the District Veterinary Officer has said.
Avian flu commonly known as bird flu is a deadly disease that affects and kills birds within a short period of time. The veterinary officials say that the birds known for carrying avian flu virus were reportedly sighted in the district making it prone to avian flu because of the unpredictable changes of the virus.
According to international protocol which is binding on all countries, entire birds in three kilometers radius have to be culled in case of detection of even a single case of avian flu virus.
The fears have been worsened by reports that some migratory birds are already on the move.
