Business in Gulu town has been greatly affected by lack of functioning street lighting.
The once busy Gulu Central Business District plunges into darkness for the rest of the night forcing the business community there to close down their businesses as early as 6pm.
Members of the business community who are affected by the darkness say they are forced to close down early unlike in the past when they would operate till morning.
David Onen, a businessman who operates on Nyeru Road explains that the lack of streetlights has affected their businesses because customers now fear to come out in the dark to purchase commodities for fear of being attacked by thieves.
One says the thieves who have taken advantage of the darkness have scared away customers from buying things at night.

Prosy Atim, a retail shop operator, says lack of streetlights has led to insecurity in the town as thieves take advantage of the darkness to break into shops.

Pascal Amony, who operates a pharmacy along the main street, says people who ply their trade during night hours have been badly affected because of lack of street lights.
//Cue in: “Some people who ply…”

Okello Emmanuel, another businessman attributes the increase in the accidents on lack of streetlights.
