Lira district director of health services has been interdicted over alleged abuse of office.
Dr. Peter Kusolo’s interdiction comes just days after he was arrested and charged with abuse of office, false accounting and embezzlement at the anti corruption court early this month.
He was arrested by detectives attached to State House medical and health service delivery team.
On Tuesday, Lira district Chief Administrative Officer, Benon Rwanguha told URN reporter that he interdicted Kusolo after receiving the particulars of charges levied against him from the arresting authority.
Rwanguha says the interdiction will remain until Kusolo is cleared of the charges against him.
The CAO adds that while battling the case, Dr. Kusolo is required to stay out of office and that he will only be receiving half pay effective May 1st 2012.
Dr. Kusolo has confirmed his interdiction.
His arrest stemmed from 3.4 million shillings that he allegedly received last year for social mobilization on Neglected tropical diseases but he failed to show proper accountability of how he had spent the money.
He reportedly tried to secretly return the said money to the district health account at Bank of Baroda in Lira town.
He is also being accused of failing to spend more 643 million shillings sent to the district health department in the 2010/2011 financial year under Peace Recovery and Development Plan to facilitate various activities for primary health care.
This is the second time Dr. Kusolo is being interdicted over alleged abuse of office. In early 2000, Kusolo was interdicted but later on cleared by the then district service commission.
