Two health officials in Luka district are in the spotlight for alleged misconduct and abuse of office.
Two health officials in Luka district are in the spotlight for alleged misconduct and abuse of office. They are Dr. Enok Kwikiriza, Luuka District Health Officer and Dr Matthias Wabwire Panyako, the officer in charge of Kayunga Health center IV. Kwikiriza is accused of personalizing hospital property and extorting money from patients at Kayunga health Center IV.
 
Frank Bikaba, a clinical officer at Kayunga Health Center IV says that Kwikiriza grabbed a television set bought to be used in the outpatients department and kept it in his office. He also alleges that both Dr Enok Kwikiriza and Dr Matthias Wabwire Panyako are involved in extorting money from patients at Kayunga Health IV before operating on them.
 

Bikaba explains several patients have complained to him implicating the two officials for seeking for demanding for bribes of money ranging between shillings 100,000 and 500,000 before they can be operated. He made the allegations in a meeting convened on Tuesday at Kayunga Health Center IV by the district leadership led by Aggrey Fredrick Bangu, Luuka RDC, Betty Kaudha Kyobe, Chairperson Luuka District Social Services Committee and speaker Baker Luwano to streamline service delivery.


But in his defense Dr Kwikiriza dismissed the allegations against him as false saying they are being spread by people interested in assuming his office. Betty Kaudha Kyobe, Chairperson Luuka District Social Service Committee chairperson has promised to table the matter before the district council ot decide a way forward.
