FDC:Punish Bushenyi Returning Officer

News
Forum for Democratic Change-FDC has petitioned Badru Kigundu, the Electoral Commission chairperson to punish Bushenyi district returning officer for alleged misconduct in the 2011 parliamentary elections.
Forum for Democratic Change-FDC has petitioned Badru Kigundu, the Electoral Commission chairperson to punish Bushenyi district returning officer for alleged misconduct in the 2011 parliamentary elections. In her letter, addressed to Kigundu, Alice Alaso, the FDC secretary general accuses Barbra Mulimira of favoring a single candidate during the Ishaka Municipality Parliamentary elections.

She also claims that during the parliamentary elections Mulimira ignored complaints from voters and deployed polling officials recruited by Nasser Basajjabalaba on the voting day instead of those appointed by the commission. Alaso claims that they lodged a complaint to the returning officer but she ignored their pleas to address the anomaly.

Paul Bukenya, the EC deputy spokesperson says that the commission has received the letter from Alaso and is still studying it before deciding on what steps to take. Recently, the court of appeal nullified the election of Nasser Basajabalaba as Ishaka municipality Member of Parliament over voter bribery.

It came after Odo Tayebwa, the FDC candidate petitioned court challenging the election of Basajabalaba on allegations of electoral malpractice. Court ordered electoral commission to hold fresh elections, in accordance with the law. EC is yet to announce the date for the Ishaka Municipality MP by-elections.
