A fake doctor who allegedly used Soda to transfuse a patient has been arrested in Kalangala district.
Mathias Asilika Bagalana, the proprietor of Asilika Obulamu Clinic in Sembabule, allegedly used Mirinda Fruity as blood to transfuse a patient in dire need of blood. The patient identified as Annet Nantale died and days later, Bagalana fled into hiding.
In February, the National Drug authority closed Asilika Obulamu Clinic in Mateete sub county and mounted a hunt for Mathias Bagalana.
Nantale's relatives led by Edward Behwora, reported the matter to Mateete police post. Behwora claimed he saw the soda which the self-styled doctor put in a white polythene bag. The patient then became unconscious and her body began to swell.
Results from the Police preliminary investigations show that Bagalana used soda to dupe the unsuspecting patients into believing that he was transfusing the girl.
Police however tracked him down to Kalangala district trying to set up another clinic.
Franko Ogibia, the Officer in Charge of Bugoma landing site, says working on a tip of informers, police picked Bagalana at Senero landing site in Mugoye Sub County, where he had set up another clinic.
Ogibia says police also closed his new nameless clinic for lack of documents. He says police arrested him after he presented two identity cards one bearing names as Mathias Asilika while the other had names Mathias Asilika Bagalana.
Godfrey Matte, the Kalangala DPC says Bagalana is still detained at Bugoma police post pending his transfer to Sembabule where he alleged committed the crimes.
Enock Hatangimaana, the Officer in Charge of Sembabule Police Station, says police are happy the suspect has been arrested. He says the suspect faces a number of charges which include murder charges, extortion and operating an illegal clinic.
He is also accused of stealing 200,000shillings from the deceased which she had paid for treatment.
