RDC Orders Contractor to Redo Road Works

News
Cox Nyakairu, Kabale Resident District Commissioner has ordered Axis Lines Company limited to redo the work on Rugarama road.
Cox Nyakairu, Kabale Resident District Commissioner has ordered Axis Lines Company limited to redo the work on Rugarama road. It follows complaints by residents of Kabale Municipality accusing the contractor of executing a poor job.  Last year, Kabale Municipality contracted Axis Lines Company limited to tarmac the 1.8 Kilo Meter stretch of Rugarama road at shillings 1.8 billion. However, after the contractor completed the road the tarmac started peeling off a few months after, drawing protests from residents.

Now, Kabale RDC Cox Nyakairu has ordered the contractor to redo the roads works. He says that it was unfortunate for the contractor Paul Nyabushaki to tarmac the road before its sets. Nyakairu says that contractor should not be allowed to handle the second phase of the road before he reworks on the portion under contention. He has also ordered the Municipal authorities not to pay more money to the contractor before the authorities are satisfied with his works.

Kabale Municipality has already paid Axis Lines Company limited shillings 250 million of the 340 Million budgeted for the first phase. He also received another 340 million shillings meant for bush clearing and grading. Dr Pius Ruhemurana, Kabale Municipal Mayor says that they will not release the remaining shillings 90 million to the contractor until they are satisfied with the road works. The municipality engineer Alex Tumwesigye says that they will step monitoring and supervision to ensure quality work.

But Fedelis Twahirwa, a resident of Kibikura along Rugarama road blames the authorities for cordoning shoddy work. He faults the authorities for failing to reprimand or blacklist a contractor involved in doing shoddy work. Paul Nyabushaki, the managing Director Axis Lines Company limited has not yet commented on the new development since he could be reached on his known mobile.
