Mathias Asilika Bagala, the proprietor of Asilika Obulamu Clinic in Ssembabule has been released without charge. Bagalana was arrested on Monday after he transfused Anent Nantale using Mirinda Fruity leading to her death. As a result, Bagalana fled into hiding forcing her relatives led by Edward Behwora to report the matter to Matete Police post.
Behwora alleged that he saw the soda which the self-styled doctor put in a white polythene bag administered to the late Nantale. In February, the National Drug authority closed Asilika Obulamu Clinic in Mateete Sub County and mounted a hunt for Mathias Bagalana. On Monday, Police picked up Bagalana from Senero landing site in Mugoye sub count in Kalangala after hunting for him for close to two months in connection to the death of Nantale.
He was found trying to set up another clinic in the area. However, Kalangala Police released Bagalana on Thursdays without charging him. Godfrey Matte, the Kalangala DPC says they released Bagalana after their counterparts in Sembabule asked them to release him because the complainants had withdrawn the case against him. Matte says that despite the fact that they have released Bagalana without charge, they have cautioned him against opening another clinic.
Gonzaga Yiga, the Sembabule district Criminal Investigations Officer says that police could not continue holding Bagalana because they have no case against him. Edward Behwora, the complainant has not commented on the release of Bagalana as he didn’t pick our repeated calls to his phone.
