Anti-riot Police have been deployed at Kampala University-Luweero campus to restore order after students staged a strike protesting what they called filthy state of toilets and poor quality of meals.
Anti-riot Police have been deployed at Kampala University-Luweero campus to restore order, after students staged a strike protesting against the filthy state of toilets and poor quality of meals.

The angry students besieged the director of the campus Hussein Kato, welfare officer John Muwanga demanding for their immediate resignation.

The officers were accused of incompetence and failure to address their grievances.

Anti-riot police commanded by Central-Eastern Region police commander, Richard Mivule, was called in and managed to save the officers from possible violence. 

Tony Bakojja, one of the aggrieved students says the toilets have for the last one week remain unclean. He noted that the filthy state of the toilets was a risk to the students' health.

Another student who did not want to be named says she contracted an infection and her complaints to the administration fetched no action. She says the  Vice chancellor Professor Badru Kateregga, should  sack Hussein Kato and John Muwanga  for failure to adress thier grievances.

For Abbas Kirevu, the students plight has been made worse by the poor quality of meals served.

The Central-Eastern Regional police commander, Richard Mivule,  convened a crisis meeting with administrators and resolved to address the students’ grievances with in two weeks.

RPC Mivule ordered the top university administrators to check the disciplines of the staffs and ensure there is harmony between the staffs and the students.

In August 2011,Several students who were admitted to study at the Kampala University Luwero campus, rejected the offer after they found out that students were sleeping on three-decker beds like secondary students.
