Mbale police is holding a 21-year-old man for chopping his parents to death over a piece of land. The suspect is Abel Wakatira, a resident of Nangolo village in Busiu Sub County that lies on the border of Mbale and Tororo District. Diana Nandawula, the Eastern Regional Police spokesperson says that trouble started when Wakatira visited his parents on Saturday and received news that they were planning to sale off some land to raise school fees for his sister after she was chased away from school.

It is alleged that suspects immediately confronted his father Fred Nsiza and mother Alice Nsiza protesting the sale of land. Nandawula says that Wakatira waited until late in the night when he sneaked into the house and chopped his parents into pieces using an axe. She says that neighbors of the deceased reported their brutal murder to police on Sunday leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was still at home.

Wakatira was taken to Tororo Central Police station for interrogation where he confessed to the murder. According to Nandawula the suspect was transferred today to Mbale Central police station where he is waiting to be charged with murder.
