Sheikh Ahmed Bujara, the Kabale district Kadhi was on Monday thrown out of Kirigime Mosque by angry Muslims who accused him of trying to influence the way elections were being handled.

Trouble for Bujara started when he contested the candidature of the chairperson for Kirigime Mosque, Senga Bashir, who was contesting with the former mosque treasurer, Hajji Kikonyogo Nakayiba. The two were contesting for the post of Councilor representing Kirigime Mosque to Kabale Muslim County.

Sheikh Bujara had protested Senga’s candidature on grounds that he had failed to resign his post as the acting Kirigime mosque secretary saying that it was not in order for him to hold two posts at the same time.

This was, however, rubbished by Bashir who denied ever being the mosque secretary claiming that he was just acting.

In the ensuing confusion, the bitter Muslims who insisted on going ahead with the elections forced the District Kadhi and Hajji Kikonyogo out of the mosque.

The Group which was led by Amani Bashir revealed that they could not allow the Kadhi to mislead them blaming him for trying to mix personal issues with issues to do with the leadership of the mosque.

However, Sheikh Ahmed Bujara riled the Muslims when he declared that the elections were postponed to a date which he is yet to announce and the Muslims insisted that they must vote.

Suwed Salim, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council returning officer in charge of Kabale district went ahead to conduct the elections saying that the Kadhi was not the one supposed to make and implement the road map for Muslim elections in the country.

He referred to the exercise as peaceful so far saying that the challenge is being brought about by some individuals who have their selfish motives to achieve.

Sheikh Bujara declined to comment on the wrangles saying he would come back to make a formal communication.
